ecologyEnviromental Awareness & Sustainability

Siiren will only ever use wood for our products from our own funded plantations & other proven sustainable sources, all trees and wood must have a license before it can be cut. This is policed with a required unique stamp and serial number which acts as proof that the wood is under legal and enviromental control. For every tree that is taken from our plantation a futher 6 are planted in its place.

One of the main woods used in our products is Raintree wood, scientifically known as Samanea Saman or known to the locals as Suar or Suwar. Rain tree is Native to South America but was dispersed throughout the tropics stretching from Asia, Africa etc for atleast 100 years. Because of its fast growing properties, Raintree wood is easily replaceable which makes it the favoured wood for craftsman and importers. We also have handcrafted items made from Albesia, Bamboo and crocodile wood to mention a few.

On every trip overseas to visit our artists, we spend a massive amount of time replanting trees and working in our planations. It gives us great satisfaction to know that we are doing our bit for future generations of wood carvers as we are safe in the knowledge they will always have a reliable income from the fantastic work they do.

recycling

Because of our interest in Environmental issues , we recycle all of our packaging materials in house and will always use recycled packaging materials to package customers products.

This does not mean your item will turn up in a tatty old box, It simply means we buy boxes from large companies like supermarkets,  that are in brand new condition but have already been used for their initial purpose and would normally be destined for the bin.

We use a large amount of corrugated paper in our packaging , this is 100% recycled and bio-degradable.

Where possible we package delicate items in shredded paper to ensure that all waste paper in our warehouse is re-used.

Because of the fragile nature of our items , We do need to use bubble wrap in our packaging to protect items,  but would ask customers to keep the bubble wrap and reuse where possible. For example when sending gifts to family or moving house etc.
